P-72® Copolymer” Flowmeters for Caustic & Chlorine Flow MeasurementAKRON WATER SELECTS "P-72 COPOLYMER" FLOWMETERS FOR CHLORINE SERVICE

The City of Akron's Water Supply Plant selected Flow Line Options' "P-72® Copolymer" Flowmeters for their Sedimentation Basins Rehabilitation Project. Fluids being metered include chlorine and chlorine dioxide.

These heavy bodied flowmeters are specifically designed for demanding applications including chlorine, hot wet chlorine gas, chlorine dioxide, sodium hydroxide, high pH sodium hypochlorite, and brines. They have been in use in chlor-alkali service around the world for years, and one division of Occidental Chemical named them the "safety standard for chlor-alkali service!" Flanged connections are standard, although NPT and socket cement connections are offered as options.

Akron chose Flo-Corp's P-72 meters because they offered superior corrosion resistance to the chlorine solutions. Additionally, MEMFlo meters cost less than the meters originally specified on the job.

Depending on the service, wetted materials are all P-72 Copolymer or P-72 with titanium, electroless nickel plated T310 stainless, and teflon internals for maximum corrosion resistance. Sight tubes may be glass, polysulfone, or P-72 (again, depending on fluid service).

New Intrinsically Safe Transducer Set for Ultrasonic Flowmeters!

The new Series DTTN transducer is now available in a configuration certified for use in Class 1 Division 1, Groups C & D hazardous environments. The Intrinsically Safe (IS) transducer set is designed specifically for use in a hazardous atmosphere; such as oil refineries, chemical plants and paint manufacturing, in which flammable gases or explosive dust may be present. IS products require designs that prevent the possibility of sparks being generated by high electrical fields and/or intermittent electrical connections.

As with our other ultrasonic flow meters, installation of the IS system is pretty straight forward. The flow meter box - TFXD, TFXL, TFXM - will be located in the non-hazardous area. A short length of cable will connect the TFX to the barriers that are also located in the non-hazardous area. Longer lengths of cable are then needed to connect the output of the barriers to the transducers installed in the hazardous environment. The IS transducer configuration includes a modified set of DTTN ultrasonic transit time transducer heads and an enclosure that contains two high-frequency barriers. The barriers permit the RF signals to transmit back and forth to our transducers, while preventing potentially explosive levels of DC or AC voltage from passing through to the hazardous area. A drawing of a typical application and product setup is available.

The IS transducer can be paired with any of our non-portable transit time transmitter box that is capable of using the Series DTTN standard transducers. The system has been evaluated and approved by CSA according to the applicable CSA and ANSI/UL standards, and will bear the CSA mark with both the 'C' and 'US' indicators. The approval details are noted on the CSA Certificate of Compliance.
